Revue Earl Scruggs and Friends / Earl Scruggs and Friends:Il existe deux catégories d'albums hommages : ceux qui se contentent de donner un coup de chapeau à un artiste et ceux qui l'invitent à la fête. Celui-ci est de la seconde, la plus passionnante. Entouré de quelques-uns de ses plus fervents admirateurs, et d'artistes dont il a partagé le parcours, le grand joueur de banjo Earl Scruggs revisite quelques grands classiques de la country et du bluegrass et s'essaie en bonne compagnie à des compositions hors champ. C'est bien sûr sur les plages du répertoire que les réussites sont les plus brillantes. Il faut saluer la belle équipe constituée avec Billy Bob Thornton sur "Ring Of Fire" et celle, inattendue, qui met en présence Johnny Cash et Don Henley sur "Passin'Thru". Les meilleurs moments instrumentaux réunissent la relève du bluegrass, avec Randy Scruggs et Marty Stuart ("Foggy Mountain Breakdown"), et une mention particulière ira à la version de "Blue Ridge Mountain Blues" qui associe John Fogerty au légendaire musicien. Une vraie fête de la musique. -José Ruiz.
