Tout commence comme dans un film de Carpenter avec des sonorités de synthé lancinantes et noires, une voix incantatoire (celle d'Alec) annonciatrice d'un cataclysme sonique qui ne tarde pas à arriver. Il faut dire que Alec Empire s'est un peu le pape du death metal-noisy-punk-hardcore de la musique électronique. Guitare distordue en boucle, pilonnage rythmique de circonstance et voix éructant sa haine du système (ou autres) sont les principaux ingrédients d'une musique qui en veut assurément à nos nerfs et à nos sens. Après un démarrage tonitruant ("Path Of Destruction"), Alex calme légèrement le jeu avec l'electro délétère de "The Ride" pour embrayer de plus belle sur l'haletant "Tear It Out". Un peu comme si Slayer ou GBH avaient pris de l'ecstasy. Parfois, Alec flirte avec le bruitisme (cf. le diabolique ". And Never Be Found") ou le hip-hop hybride ("New World Order"). [+]
Le deuxième CD explore l'autre versant de l'inspiration du Teuton avec une musique expérimentale introspective ("The Cat Women Of The Moon", "Silence And Burning Ice"), jouant sur les fréquences pour trouver des mélodies singulières ("Parallel Universe", "Alec's Ladder"), parfois presque electro-pop ("Two Turntables And A Moog", "Electric Bodyrock"). Cette facette plus aimable pourra séduire ceux que la face sombre et violente d'Empire rebute. -Laurent Gilot.
